Launched in 2007, the Ares European direct lending team focuses on self-originated investments in illiquid credits in Europe. We provide “one-stop” financing solutions with the flexibility to invest in the senior debt, unitranche and mezzanine debt in both primary and secondary markets. We have the ability to lead and structure deals as an agent or lead investor to support growth, acquisitions and changing needs of portfolio companies.
The Ares European direct lending team is headquartered in London with offices in Paris, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid and Luxembourg, covering the UK / Ireland and Southern, Northern and Central Europe. As of December 31, 2019, Ares Management Corporation (“Ares”) has approximately 55 investment professionals managing approximately $26.1 billion of total assets under management (“AUM”)(1) in European credit products across approximately 200 institutional investors. As of December 31, 2019, the senior investment professionals of the team have on average approximately 20 years of experience in lending to middle-market companies in Europe.
The Ares European direct lending team primarily focuses on companies in defensive industries with high free cash flow. The team pursues a multi-channel origination strategy designed to uncover the best and broadest set of investment opportunities, sourcing deals directly from financial sponsors, companies, management teams, and commercial and investment banks. This multi-source origination strategy allows for greater asset selectivity and better long-term credit decisions.
From inception in 2007 through December 31, 2019, the Ares European direct lending team has completed over 210 transactions and invested over €23.0 billion(2) through Ares Capital Europe commingled funds and managed accounts. We manage a diversified portfolio in terms of asset class, industry sector and geographic representation.
The team works with the broader Ares platform, providing access to extensive relationship networks and insights into industry and macro-economic trends through its coverage of over 1,700 companies.
