Director

Mr. Cooney is a Director in the Ares Private Debt Group covering the French and Southern European markets. Mr. Cooney joined Ares in 2009 from HSBC France where he worked as a Managing Director heading up the leveraged finance team in Paris.Prior to joining HSBC France, Mr. Cooney was a Director with the Paris-based teams of Barclays Capital, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Societe Generale. 

Mr. Cooney graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Political Science and holds a M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics as well as completing graduate course work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
